Practical maritime AI guides

Better questions.
Better starting points.

Use these short guides to frame a maritime AI workflow, test the data and define the evidence needed for a production decision.

01Workflow selection

Choose the first workflow.

Start with a recurring task and a person accountable for it. Establish how the team performs the work today, where the inputs live and how the output is accepted. Check existing software before adding another workflow. A useful pilot includes normal cases and the exceptions that create rework.

Questions to take into the discussion

  • Which task repeats often enough to measure?
  • Who accepts the output today?
  • What would justify the full running cost?

Agree how vessel, voyage and fixture identifiers match across sources. Define timestamps, units, amendment handling and source freshness. Available information may still lack the rights or quality the task needs. Give unresolved data issues an owner and preserve the context needed for review.

Questions to take into the discussion

  • Which system owns the accepted record?
  • Can the intended use access the information lawfully?
  • How are stale or conflicting sources handled?

Establish what your licensed platforms already do and where additional implementation is justified. Compare the actual workflow, permissions, user effort and total running cost. Test representative cases and agree who supports the result when a source, model or business rule changes.

Questions to take into the discussion

  • What is already available in your licensed tools?
  • Which requirement remains unserved?
  • Who supports the result across vendors?

Define approved sources, permitted actions and review requirements. Confirm who can access the information, how output is evaluated and what happens when the workflow fails. Establish support and recovery before production. Check the entity, scope and dates of any assurance evidence.

Questions to take into the discussion

  • Which actions require a person to approve?
  • What failure cases must be tested?
  • What evidence is needed for production acceptance?

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Before we start.

Choose the first-workflow guide, then use the relevant workflow page to frame the owner, required sources and measure of value.

Yes. Bring a recurring task, its owner and an anonymized description to an initial discussion.

These guides frame implementation discussions. Decisions remain with the responsible operational, legal and technical specialists.
